The Shenandoah Valley Soil & Water Conservation District is seeking summer interns to assist with office and field work between May and August 2015. The interns will assist with a variety of conservation work, including but not limited to: field visits, review of various agricultural projects and computer/office work.
The internships are unpaid positions that require a minimum commitment of at least 20 hours a week. Commitments of larger blocks of time (6+ hours) will allow for more varied experiences with more time in the field. Scholarships are provided to interns who volunteer more than 100 hours. Scholarship amounts range from $250 - $750. The schedule of the position is flexible, but limited to 7:30 am- 5:00pm Monday through Friday. Proposed starting date May 4, 2015. Proposed end date August 28, 2015. These dates are flexible as school schedules vary and will affect availability.
The ideal applicant would have experience in and understanding of agriculture and conservation, whether academic or on-farm; knowledge of GPS usage linked to GIS capabilities; spreadsheet/database management.
