ASSOCIATE MANUFACTURING AUTOMATION ENGINEER

Description:
This position provides support for the control system software and hardware for the various manufacturing areas at the site. This typically involves managing several challenging projects. The Associate Manufacturing Automation Engineer will be paired with a more experienced Automation Engineer who will oversee their work as well as their development. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply their enthusiasm and technical skills as a member of a multidisciplinary team supporting the operation of pharmaceutical product manufacturing facilities.

Responsibilities include:
  • Assist with providing automation support for various manufacturing systems such as Programmable Logic Controllers , Distributed Control Systems and Original Equipment Manufacturer platforms.
  • Must be willing to work closely with various site and central groups in order to ensure control systems are designed, implemented and maintained in a manner to ensure manufacturing requirements are met
  • Designing solutions to ensure quality and stability of automation systems through future expansions, replacements, or upgrades.
  • Using technical knowledge to assure the efficient operation of a variety of automated processing and information technology systems.
  • Developing an understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Communicates daily with operation, technical, and quality representatives within area of support through the tier process.
  • Periodically reviews automation documents, performs preventive maintenance, and revises or develops automation Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Develops and supports corrective actions associated with automation related deviations/investigations
  • Communicates periodically with immediate supervisor about the status of area of responsibility
  • On the floor trouble shooting support of manufacturing activities
  • Maintains all system life cycle documentation
  • Responsibilities will potentially include providing automation support on various shifts and remote off-hour coverage support for trouble calls.

MERCK PRODUCTION SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Description:
  • Partner with Manufacturing and Support organizations to develop and maintain a sustainable lean manufacturing environment driven by an engaged workforce.
  • Prioritize, align and integrate use of various tools & strategies to analyze and standardize process, material and information management in support of manufacturing value streams and effectively transfer required mindsets, behaviors and skills into the organization.
  • Partner with the production teams on the shop floor to identify sources & eliminate issues and develop trust through standardized communication tools.
  • Incorporate continuous improvement skills through the framework of Merck Production System, resulting in sustainability & realization of intended people and business benefit.
  • Optimize existing processes to achieve improvements in process quality, yield and efficiency.
Both internship opportunities will start on July 5, 2022 and extend through the Fall 2022 semester. The internships will require working 40 hours per week during Summer 2022, and about 15-20 hours per week during the Fall 2022 semester, with some flexibility.

Microbiologist Intern, Harrisonburg, Summer 2022

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking a Summer Microbiologist Intern to work in the microbiology laboratories at the Harrisonburg Regional Animal Health Laboratory. Duties include assisting in a wide range of microbiological testing techniques, including the testing of raw milk and related dairy products to detect the presence of harmful bacteria, antibiotic residues and adulterated products, the non-regulatory analysis of milk samples for protein, fats, solids, lactose and other parameters, microbiological testing of water samples, aerobic and anaerobic microbiological culturing, and sensitivity testing of isolates as needed. The intern will also assist in the performance of a variety of serological testing, prepare a wide variety of culture media, and help conduct quality control testing on media and culture practices. The selected student will work collaboratively, as a team member, and assist with other related laboratory procedures as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Current enrollment in a microbiology, biology, or a closely related scientific degree program is required. Other qualifications include knowledge of microbiological and laboratory procedures, techniques and methods used to carry out examinations with an emphasis on diagnostic bacteriology; and knowledge of general safety procedures necessary in a clinical laboratory. Exceptional oral/written and customer service skills and the ability to follow oral and written directions with precision and accuracy; to work independently; and to develop logical conclusions and to work collaboratively within a team environment is essential. Testing formats required precision, manual dexterity and visual acuity. School coursework, including laboratory sessions, indicating possession of the preceding knowledge & abilities may substitute.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a veterinary or medical clinical laboratory providing some microbiology duties as well as experience performing customer service duties.

Pay: $13.63/hour
