We seek highly motivated students with interests in biochemistry, chemical biology, cancer biology or a related field. The person should be driven to contribute intellectually in a dynamic team environment and have a desire to participate in therapeutic discovery efforts.
The Intern will be asked to:
- Participate in active research programs in molecular design, drug discovery and delivery, biologic therapies, and cancer biology. The student will be trained in a wide variety of laboratory techniques such as peptide synthesis and purification, microscopy, flow cytometry, mammalian cell culture, mass spectrometry and routine biochemical techniques.
- Collaborate with scientists from other disciplines (e.g., chemistry, molecular biology, cancer biology, and immunology) in cross-divisional teams.
- Keep a detailed laboratory notebook and to present 1-2 seminars summarizing their progress to the group. Student associates will write and submit a final report on their project and its significance.
- Complete necessary training classes and maintain a safe working environment.
- Learn and abide by SRI’s intellectual property guidelines.
Qualifications
- We encourage applicants with strong laboratory or independent research experience and a broad understanding of the latest in biomedical sciences.
- Course curricula should include general/organic chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, biotechnology, and/or immunology.
- Laboratory experience in biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology is required.
- The successful applicant must be working toward completion of a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering or a similar discipline.
- Experience with mammalian tissue culture, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, protein biochemistry, protein expression and purification, and receptor or enzyme activity assays is preferred but not required.
