Protein Engineering Internships at Chakrabarti Advanced Technology - NJ

Chakrabarti Advanced Technology (CAT) is the technology development and basic research arm of the global chemicals and pharmaceutical conglomerate PMC Group, Inc, and is comprised of Divisions of Fundamental and Applied Research.), The founder of CAT (AB Harvard, PhD Princeton) was formerly Professor of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University and then Carnegie Mellon University and is currently the Managing Director of PMC Group International. CAT’s research focuses on the application of systems engineering methods to molecular engineering problems ranging from high-throughput enzyme design to the control of quantum molecular dynamics.

CAT is seeking 2 interns for Summer 2019 at its headquarters in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. The internship program will be for a duration of 4 weeks in June or July for college going students. A stipend of $2,500 will be awarded for the internship. The students will be exposed to cutting-edge research problems in science and engineering, and the internship is intended to make them passionate about a future career working on next-generation problems that represent major challenges facing the world. In particular, the internship focuses on the area of high-throughput protein engineering (a type of genetic engineering) that constitutes an important part of PMC Group’s pharmaceutical chemistry initiatives. Interns will work with the team on the application of such genetic engineering techniques to industrial enzymes, enzymes for DNA biotechnology, and peptide drugs.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist senior scientists with high-throughput protein engineering work. The methods include generation and screening of protein libraries using a variety of state-of-the-art techniques.
  • Assist senior scientists with targeted literature search using online library databases to download scientific publications and patents.
  • Assist senior scientists with any needed outsourcing of experiments through contract research organizations (CROs), describing the needed experiments to the CROs and obtaining quotes for pricing.

To Apply: Only undergraduate students eligible

(a) Your current curriculum vitae (CV), (b) a cover letter describing how your background to date makes you a suitable candidate for these positions, and (c) request for application form.
